Meeting of the Minds

As you all know Abilio is the amazing sculptor who built La Sirena almost 22 years ago.  He lives in a city in the mountains above San Jose named Puriscal.  When he comes to Esterillos he works his way here over the mountainous dirt road by bus. At the age of now 74 - it is a chore for him to get here.

The day before yesterday - Tuesday, Abilio and Dieter (our welder) met for the first time since February.  Abilio reported that the new fin to replace to one from the tail that was lost many years ago, has been rebuilt.  He plans to bring that to Esterillos this weekend with the help of a friend who will drive him here.

While Abilio was here, the 3 of us made the treacherous trek out to La Sirena.  I say treacherous because now that we are into rainy season the moss on the rocks does not have enough sunshine to dry it out and therefore the reef is dangerously slippery!!  In fact, Dieter went down once on the way out but fortunately did not get hurt.

While we were at the site, the two men discussed what had been done (the hole in the head is now fixed, a major crack in the chest repaired) and where we were going now.  The guys discussed the procedure that will be used to repair her and how to attach the new fin to the tail- hopefully, this weekend.

Slowly......but Surely :)
