Some people call this event a rodeo but unlike the states where you have a variety of events - barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, bronc riding - the "rodeo" in Parrita consists of just one event - bull riding. Well...actually....the highlight of this event is not the ride itself, but - watching the bull charge the "macho" men as they run around the arena teasing the bull, tying to hit it on the ass and not get killed.
Again in the states - once a rider falls off the bull, immediately the cowboys swoop in to lasso the bull and lead it out of the arena. Here - as long as the bull is pissed off and wants to kill someone - it is allowed to stay in the ring.
This event is very popular here in Costa Rica. Every year - not necessarily Parrita - someone gets killed. Last night there were no injuries just a ton of fun had by all - including the bulls.
